Meeting 8: Le Gai Savoir (proposed)

Le Gai Savoir (Joyful Knowledge) is being released on DVD in May 2008. Shot before May ‘68, but finished only in ‘69 it perhaps marks Godard’s radical start (Aufbruch), or has he says in the film a ’starting from zero’, towards a new language for film. In fact, the film is a kind of proposal for a three year course. ‘The first year we collect images and sounds and experiment. The second year we criticize all that: decompose, recompose. The third year we attempt some small models of reborn film.’

Would be interesting to watch this film together at some point, also in relation to our bunker school/alternative school and of course the ‘radical and the revolutionary’ theme.
